QlM Describe two best practices successfully implemented by the Institution as per NAAC format provided in the Manual.
Practice No.1 Inculcating Culture for Women Empowerment.
Objectives of the Practice:
- A girl student should become confident, competent, and socially aware in all aspects.
- To know her potential and become able to face the problems.
- Enable Economic and Social Empowerment of women.
- Overcome gender inequality.
- Develop capacity to understand, share thought, overcome gender bias and social inequalities.
The Context:
In India women face the problems like dowry, child marriage, female feticide, illiteracy, violence, discrimination at home and workplace and so on. Government has made many laws to protect the rights of women like ban on dowry, right to property etc but these have not solved the problems of women completely. All problems can be solved by empowering women through education for uplifting women’s status in society.
The Practice:
The College has established Sansthamata Sushiladevi Salunkhe Mahila Utkarsha Kendra. Women Empowerment Cell of the college works under this Centre. To empower the girl students, the following activities are conducted through this Cell
- Gender Policy-To develop a sustainable and inclusive environment a comprehensive gender policy is prepared.
- Gender Audit –To take active steps to establish good gender balance.
- Women Entrepreneurship Development programme of One Month duration sponsored by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India and Department of Science and Technology conducted by Maharashtra Centre for Entrepreneurship Development Osmanabad to develop entrepreneurship among the girl students.
- Orientation programme on Ending Child Marriages is conducted in collaboration with UNICEF, Women and Child Development and Centre of Social behaviour Change Communication, Mumbai (MS).
- Night Walk Rally – Participation in Rally for giving message in order to protest against victimization of women Unnav Incident, Hyderabad, in collaboration with Divya Marathi News Paper.
- Shravan Sohala- To Develop Personality and affection towards nature and impart Indian culture and tradition among the girl students.
- Her platform – Learn to Express their views regarding the various social issues of importance.
- Celebration of International Women’s Day- International Seminar organised on topic ‘Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’
Evidence of Success:
- The enrolment of Girls students in the college is increased; it is more than 55%.
- College girl students bagged the Gold medals of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University examination in the academic years 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020 and 3rd, 5th Ranks in the University Examination in 2021-2022.
- Delivered talks on Social platform Facebook live on awareness and prevention of Covid-19.
- Got Ph.D. research scholarship in foreign country.
- Participation in different Outdoor Games at University, State and National Level.
- Participation in Start Up Yatra.
- Gold Medal in Kho-kho at National Level.
- Qualified SET/Competitive Examinations.
Problems encountered and Resources required.
- Girls and parents particularly from rural areas face problems of transportation and staying outside home for higher education.
- One of the factors responsible is the safety of girls outside home.
- Due to gender discrimination number of problems are created and instead facing to these problems, girls and parents are remaining aside from all the progressive, developmental facilities and activities.
- More funds, Scholarships are required to Girl students for motivation to pursue higher education.
Practice No. 2
1. Promoting Scientific Culture in the Society
2.Objectives of the Practice:
- Inculcate scientific temper and to promote research activities.
- Develop innovative skill and creative mind-set.
- Making capable to understand methods of scientific investigation.
- Develop fundamental understanding of natural systems.
- Get experience in standard techniques and procedures.
- Motivate and acquire skills with interest.
3. The Context :
Science and technology has purpose to initiate, advance and accelerate the economic growth for national development. This Best Practice is useful in inculcating certain values and attitudes, scientific temper, rationality, reasoning, problem solving methods of science etc. that are essential for good citizenship. Scientific and technological man power is a need of hours for the continuous economic growth. Scientific attitude trains students to eradicate poverty, superstition and illiteracy, which contribute in nation building.
4. The Practice
The college has been sanctioned DBT Star College Scheme by Dept. of Biotechnology, Government of India. The College has received grants of Rs.82 Lakhs under this scheme which is utilised for the following-
- Strengthened the laboratories with modern equipment.
- Organised Webinars, Guest lectures, Workshops, Hands-on-Training programmes on current topics of relevance.
- Organised Industrial visits, field visits, institutional visits.
- Students completed research projects on science topics.
- Vivekananda Astronomy Club is established through which students developed own telescope and Sky observation activities at night are conducted.
- Vivekananda Soil testing facility Centre is established to help nearby farmers.
- Shivar (Agro) Chemistry programme is organised every year in which students of chemistry visited nearby agricultural farm and interacted with the farmers.
- Science congress is organised on National Science day in which Poster Presentation Competition, Guest lectures are organised.
- Avishkar Competition-
- Students participated in University level Avishkar Research Convention.
- Students are guided to prepare projects, posters and scientific models, experiments for the research competition.
- Bios Wall paper on Biodiversity Conservation.
- Medicinal Plants and extinct animals exhibition.
- Celebration of National Mathematics day on 22nd December every year in which students presents PowerPoint Presentation on topics of Mathematics.
5. Evidence of Success
- This practice has helped our students and faculties in many ways. Our students have bagged second prize in the University Level Avishkar Research Competition and also participated in State level Avishkar Research Competition.
- First prize in Sate level Seminar Competition.
- Selection and participation for Mini MTTS Programme in Mathematics.
- Student stood first in B. Sc. Examination of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University and has been awarded the gold medal in the academic year 2018-2019.
- Obtained first rank in University B. Sc. Examinations in 2018.
- Secured highest marks in the subject of Physics at B. Sc. Examinations of the University in 2018.
- College student got Ph. D. research scholarship in foreign country (U. S. A.).
- Students constructed telescope. Sky observation gives pleasure as well as practical knowledge.
- Observance of Science Day and organisation of science Congress is helpful to update students for current scenario.
6. Problems encountered and Resources Required:
- Due to increase in number of Professional colleges, the number of students taking admission to Basic Science courses is decreased.
- More funds, Scholarships are required for participation in research level competitions.
- Due to busy regular timetable of the curriculum, less time is available for students to do the research activities.
- Most of students are from rural area having weak economical background and they are facing problems of transportation to attend the college.
